Perinatal Mood Disorders Conference: Steps to Wellness in Suffolk County
May 15, 2007, West Islip, NY — With May being Perinatal Mood Disorders Awareness Month in Suffolk County, The Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc. is pleased to be collaborating with the Suffolk Perinatal Coalition on their 17th Annual Conference and Membership Meeting entitled Perinatal Mood Disorders: Steps to Wellness.
The Friday, May 18, 2007 conference is in collaboration also with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and the Suffolk County Office of Women's Services. It will be held at the Stonebridge Country Club, 2000 Raynors Way, Smithtown, New York from 8am – noon.
Perinatal Mood Disorders is the most common medical complication related to childbearing. Perinatal Mood Disorders: Steps to Wellness will highlight Primary Care Intervention, Social Support, Current Research and Legislative Advocacy.
Remarks will be made by the following:
- Mary Lou Boyle, Board President and Gail Burrus, Executive Director, Suffolk Perinatal Coalition
- Humayun J. Chaudhry, DO, MS, Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Services
- Program Moderator, Deanna Marshall, Director of Suffolk County Women's Services

- Dr. Margaret Howard, Women and Infant's Day Hospital for Postpartum Depression in Providence , Rhode Island
- Mary Sidoti, Director, Children and Parents Together Program of the Family Service League
- Sonia Murdock, Co-founder & Executive Director of the Postpartum Resource Center of New York, Inc.
- Ginny Fields, New York State Assemblywoman
“We need to continue to build a perinatal mood disorders safety net in Suffolk County and throughout our country. Women and families need to know they are not alone and this is a treatable illness. Treatment and support services need to continue to be created to serve families and save lives,” comments Sonia Murdock, Executive Director, Postpartum Resource Center of New York.
